Hi Team,
Thank you for responding to my previous email. This month was a busy one! There were a lot of end of the year festivities, SICM (Student Institute of Campus Ministry) in Washington for 10 days, and now we are back for Summer Focus. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Below are a few things that are going on in my life and ministry.
Fundraising Update
I can't even begin to explain how thankful I am for each and everyone of you for your partnership in campus ministry. In my first year of campus ministry I would often think of fundraising as only a necessary part of doing ministry and was entirely too focused on how unpleasant it was to actually do it. The Lord has changed my heart towards fundraising and I'm so thankful He has done so. In the words of Nouwen "It is a way of announcing our vision and inviting other people into our mission. Vision and mission are so central to the life of God’s people that without vision we perish and without mission we lose our way".
Thank you for being part of that vision! I am now in the full swing of fundraising for the school year and I am currently at 67% of my goal!
This Summer, if 15 people join my support team at $100 a month I would reach my goal for the year.
It would be awesome if you can join me in praying for these 15 ministry partners! I don't have many new people to ask but I trust that the Lord is calling people to give to campus ministry. If you have any people in your life - friends, family or co-workers that would be interested in college missions that you think I should reach out to please let me know.
If you are interested in increasing your giving please let me know. I am so thankful for you!
Ministry Updates
- This month we were able to take 6 students from our Dallas College ministries to SICM in Bellingham, Washington. We took over 90 students across all of our FOCUS ministries, how cool! All of these students were able to receive campus ministry training from various campus pastors from Bellingham. I am so excited to send these students back to their college campuses! How exciting that we will have 90 students be the hands and feet of Jesus to the incoming freshman class at our colleges and universities.
- Summer Focus: Every Thursday night this Summer all of our campus ministries come together for our weekly service. We had our Summer kickoff this past Thursday and a few hundred students attended! This is always a fun time for our students to befriend people from other college campuses. Pray that deep spiritual friendships are formed during this time! I'm excited to be preaching this Summer.
- Focus on Jesus: This Summer I will be spending one on one time with a couple of girls studying the Bible. Pray for our weekly time together as we dive into scripture and learn more about Jesus.
- In my last update I shared about my dad and having a conversation with his doctor about a liver transplant. Unfortunately, I don't have a big update on that but more information to share. There's been a lot of back and forth with doctors which has been a bit frustrating. I am praying for more clarity and direction with each appointment. This week we were told that my dad needs to get a transplant within a year! It was a bit scary receiving that news because a year seems so soon. But I am praying that we continue to move in the right direction to get him on that list and get him a liver. He is doing good overall and we haven't had a bad week in two months! A referral to a transplant has been sent out to Baylor, pray that we hear from that hospital soon. We are meeting with a lot of doctors this summer to have as much up-to-date information for Baylor when we hear from them. Thank you for praying for my family!
- I mentioned this above but pray for my personal fundraising but also for the entire FOCUS staff team. I am so thankful for all of my co-workers that have responded to the calling of being on the college campus!
- We are hoping to advertise more on both Richland and Brookhaven Campuses. We want to be more visible on campus to reach out to more students.
Thank you I am very blessed to get to do this work and it wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for the faithfulness and the generosity of people like you. Below are some of my favorite pictures from the past month. Enjoy!
Your Campus Missionary,
Sandra Salvador
